Kanwar Yatra

Over 5000 Cops, Drones Deployed for Kanwar Yatra Security in Delhi

Kanwar Yatra security has been intensified across Delhi as the annual pilgrimage gains momentum, with over 5,000 Delhi Police personnel, around 50 paramilitary companies, and drones deployed to ensure a smooth and safe journey for lakhs of devotees.

According to officials, traffic diversions and enhanced checking have been put in place on major routes frequently used by kanwariyas, who carry sacred Ganga water in decorated pots to offer at Shiva temples. The pilgrimage will culminate on Shivratri, July 22. Sensitive areas, temple zones, and kanwar camps are under constant CCTV and drone surveillance, police said.

So far, 774 locations have been identified for camps, with 374 already approved and over 150 awaiting clearance. Key highways like NH-1, NH-9, Wazirabad to Bhopura, GT Road, and Loni Road are being closely monitored, while designated entry points include Ghazipur border, Anand Vihar, ISBT Kashmere Gate, and others.

Police have stationed PCR vans, quick response teams, ambulances, and special helplines along the routes to assist pilgrims and manage crowds. Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel on notified kanwar routes to ease congestion.

Delhi Disaster Management Authority teams are also on standby with water tankers, fire services, and medical aid to address any emergencies, especially as rains continue in parts of NCR. Senior officers and SHOs are coordinating directly with camp organizers to enforce safety protocols, ensuring the Kanwar Yatra security remains robust and devotees complete their spiritual journey without disruptions.
