In a rebuke the Delhi court directed that the investigating officer face departmental action after it concluded that he had lodged a false report and mishandled the investigation, in the Mustakeem criminal case. The directive was issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Tushar Gupta of Karkardooma Court who also called on the Joint Commissioner of Police to furnish a compliance report by November 3.The bench remarked that the officer had steered the course of justice by presenting particulars even though the CCTV footage indisputably captured Mustakeem himself walking into the police precinct to lodge a grievance. Nonetheless the officer maintained that Mustakeem’s detention was predicated on an informant’s tip. The judges unearthed inconsistencies, between the fathers complaint and the FIR the police logged, flagging the omission of the sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The tribunal rebuked the Assistant Commissioner of Police and the Station House Officer for slip‑ups. Although Mustakeem’s bail request was denied amid accusations that he possessed a locally‑made firearm the court underscored that the investigation had been handled clumsily eroding confidence, in the police’s credibility.
