The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced that the intervention of its central leadership resolved key issues related to land mutations and power no-objection certificates (NOCs) in unauthorized colonies. The party accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of halting these services.
Addressing a public rally in Burari, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said thousands of residents have benefited from the resolution of these problems. He criticized the AAP and its chief, Arvind Kejriwal, for alleged corruption during the party’s decade-long rule in Delhi.
The AAP responded by accusing the BJP of misleading citizens. It challenged the BJP to provide free electricity in states it governs, as AAP does in Delhi.
The event, called the “Thank You Modiji Rally,” featured several BJP leaders, including MPs Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and Bansuri Swaraj. The BJP has been conducting weekly outreach programs in slums, resettlement colonies, and unauthorized areas since August 5, ahead of the assembly elections expected next year.
Sachdeva thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that the BJP successfully removed restrictions on property mutations and NOCs. He said the Kejriwal government had obstructed property transfers in rural areas, forcing people to pay high electricity rates. However, with the recent withdrawal of these restrictions, residents can now transfer land to their children, and electricity connections are easier to obtain.
The lieutenant governor (LG)-led Delhi Development Authority (DDA) recently allowed power companies to approve connections in urbanized villages and regularized colonies without requiring NOCs. On September 17, the LG also resumed land mutations in rural areas, enabling residents to register property ownership based on inheritance.
North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari criticized the AAP for causing hardships by blocking NOCs. He claimed many homes lacked electricity meters for years, with residents forced to share a single meter and pay inflated rates. BJP leaders also accused private power companies of colluding with the AAP to exploit citizens.
The AAP countered these allegations, asserting that Delhi offers the nation’s cheapest electricity. It questioned why BJP-governed states do not provide free power and pointed out recent rate hikes in Uttar Pradesh, a BJP-ruled state.
