Arvind Kejriwal Writes to Amit Shah, Delhi's Rising Crime Rate

Arvind Kejriwal Writes to Amit Shah, Expresses Concern Over Delhi’s Rising Crime Rate

Arvind Kejriwal, former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, is raising urgent concerns about the rising crime rates in the capital. He recently sent a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asking for an immediate meeting. Kejriwal wants to talk about the alarming increase in crime statistics that have put Delhi in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Alarming Crime Rates

In his letter, Kejriwal pointed out the unsettling rise in crime across Delhi. The city is now regarded as the “crime capital” of India. Alarmingly, it leads the nation in crimes against women and murder rates among major metropolitan areas. According to Kejriwal, this reputation is becoming increasingly known, both within India and internationally.

The statistics are troubling. Delhi has been ranked as the top city for crimes against women and murder among 19 major cities in India. These figures are compounded by reports of an increasing number of extortion gangs. Residents are also facing bomb threats aimed at both schools and airports. Even more concerning is the 350% rise in drug-related offenses, which has added to the fear among the people living in the capital.

Security Concerns

Kejriwal emphasized the profound sense of insecurity prevalent among Delhi’s residents. The rise in criminal activities has made many residents feel unsafe in their own neighborhoods. Extortion gangs are becoming more brazen, while bomb threats directed at schools and airports have further escalated security concerns.

These frightening developments have left citizens anxious and worried. Kejriwal expressed his deep-seated worry over the increase in drug-related crimes, indicating that the situation has reached a critical point. He believes it is vital to address these issues to make citizens feel secure once again.

A Call for Accountability

Before sending his letter, Kejriwal directly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of mismanaging Delhi’s law and order situation. He labeled the state of affairs as a “jungle raj,” where residents live in a constant state of fear. Kejriwal asserted that criminals in the city seem to operate without any fear of legal repercussions. This notion resonates with many frustrated citizens who feel powerless.

In a series of social media posts, Kejriwal described the dire situation unfolding in Delhi. He noted that criminal activities are now occurring openly, leaving the people living in terror. Moreover, he criticized the Union Home Minister for not taking effective control of the deteriorating security situation. Kejriwal highlighted the failure to curb crime rates, which has led to an atmosphere of chaos and fear.

Visual Evidence of Lawlessness

To back up his claims, Kejriwal’s team released a stark visual through the AAP’s official account. The image aimed to show the severity of the situation in Delhi. It suggested a sense of indifference from the central government while the city grapples with increasing lawlessness. The visual served as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for action.

Political Response

The rising crime concerns have prompted AAP Members of Parliament (MPs) to take action. They have issued notices for the suspension of business in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to discuss the deteriorating security situation. The issue has gained traction, particularly following a spree of bomb threats that targeted schools across Delhi.

Kejriwal has not hesitated to target Amit Shah again, demanding a clear response from the government regarding recent threats. He has questioned whether any arrests have been made in connection with these bomb threats, emphasizing that it is the government’s primary duty to ensure the safety of its citizens.

Court’s Involvement

In light of the increasing threats, the Delhi High Court has intervened. The court has directed both the Delhi government and the police to create a detailed action plan for addressing bomb threats and similar emergencies. A deadline of eight weeks has been set for a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be established for such incidents.
