Delhi: Mayapuri Flyover Partially Closed for Repairs

The Public Works Department (PWD) has partially closed the Mayapuri flyover in west Delhi for maintenance, impacting traffic along the Outer Ring Road. According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the carriageway from Raja Garden to Naraina will remain shut for 30 days, adding to the city’s traffic woes.

This closure marks the second phase of the repair project. The opposite carriageway, from Naraina to Raja Garden, was closed on September 6 for repairs and has since reopened. PWD officials confirmed that the flyover will not be entirely shut at any point—one lane will remain open to manage traffic flow, a method used earlier for the Chirag Delhi flyover repairs.

The repairs focus on fixing expansion joints, which will affect traffic in areas such as Punjabi Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Tagore Garden, and Mayapuri. Commuters travelling between north and west Delhi are expected to face delays due to this project, compounded by ongoing work on the Punjabi Bagh flyover, the Mukarba Chowk underpass, and Metro construction near Madhuban Chowk.

Traffic police have advised drivers to use alternate routes. Commuters from Raja Garden and Punjabi Bagh heading towards Dhaula Kuan and Naraina can use service roads via Najafgarh Road, Patel Road, and Shadipur Chowk to bypass the flyover. They also urged the public to rely on public transport and avoid roadside parking to reduce congestion.

Residents and commuters have expressed frustration over the prolonged traffic issues. Anuj Sachdeva, a Punjabi Bagh resident, said the construction delays have led to severe traffic bottlenecks, making evening commutes take up to 50 minutes. Another commuter, Bhaskar Sharma, noted that Dussehra festivities have worsened traffic, with insufficient police presence at key junctions. Traffic officials assured that personnel will be deployed to manage the situation.
