The Delhi Metro’s Red Line had a slowdown on Friday morning due to a technical issue. On Friday morning, the service between Netaji Subhash Place and Tis Hazari was halted for an unspecified period of time by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). At 9:45 am, DMRC posted on X to inform the passengers about the delay and asked them to use the other lines. The post was titled, “Delays between Netaji Subhash Place and Tis Hazari. Regret the inconvenience caused. Passengers are requested to use other lines. Normal service on all other lines.
However, when DMRC tweeted again, 15 minutes later, to say that service was resumed on the affected stretch, it did not mention if there were still residual effects from the earlier problem.
However, the passengers reported a more extensive problem than what DMRC had stated. The impact, however, was not as limited to the Netaji Subhash Place-Tis Hazari section as reported by DMRC but extended to the entire Red Line, as some commuters pointed out. However, DMRC had stated that the trains were running at a reduced speed for about an hour, unlike the momentary halt that DMRC had stated.
Aniket Kumar, one of the commuters who was affected, commented on DMRC’s post on X, “Technical problem since 9 am. Thank you for sharing the update.” Another commuter, Jay Singh, tweeted that the train was stuck at Shaheed Sthal for around 30 minutes and people were eagerly waiting for some information.
The Red Line of the Delhi Metro is one of the oldest and most important lines of the network. It began operation in 2002 and extends approximately 33 km with 29 stations and runs from Ghaziabad’s Shaheed Sthal to Rithala in north Delhi.
Although the services were restored not long after the occurrence, it shows how much a problem can inconvenience commuters during a delay on this important metro line.
